Chapter 18
ARVInn--The Manager

Chapter Description: As the ARVInn grew into a complex operation, the Director soon found himself needing to shift some of the burdens onto other shoulders (no matter what size they were!). Marvin Hailey soon found himself in a management position, showing that he might look like a kid, but wasn't!

Marvin Hailey took a moment to look at his office door.  The title “Manager” looked especially good today.  As the newly appointed manager of housing for the ARVInn, Marvin was looking happily toward a productive day. He nodded pleasantly to Jenna, the Administrative Assistant for the hotel staff and went inside.

Looking up at the room’s décor, Marvin decided he needed to bring in a few more personal items to add to its rather formal appearance.  After his previous work with the Hildon Court Inns chain, he was ready to take on a challenge in a new place and situation.  His desk had been set up for him as he had requested.  Its rather plain lines were in keeping with his preferred style, even if it sat on a raised platform.  He felt it better to take a few steps up to its level rather than be constantly looking upward to talk with visitors.  Around the office sat several chairs, of various sizes; some on the same platform level as his desk, others on the original floor level.  The maintenance staff were quite efficient and skillful in matching the colors and furniture styles.

He was comfortably dressed in the office casual style that had been decreed by the board of directors, in keeping with the philosophy that the ARVInn was more a home than just an accommodation.  At least, he thought, the commute isn’t a problem any more.  Since contracting ARV two years before, Marvin had had the usual roller coaster of emotions and reactions.  Having bounced at the age of six, his being just under four feet in height influenced the opinions of many of those in the company and led him to leave his position, even though he had been one of its rising stars.  Finding the ARVInn vacancy was a stroke of good fortune that he intended to capitalize on.
